Can you use prediction markets like ProphetX for matched betting?
How prediction market prices work, how cents convert to American odds and where ProphetX fits in a hedge
Yes: ProphetX, a prediction market, is the second leg of a hedge in the NinjaBet Bet Finder. Here is how contracts priced in cents convert to American odds, a worked bonus bet example, and how prediction markets differ from sportsbooks.

Yes. A prediction market lets you take the other side of the bet you place at a sportsbook, which is exactly what a hedge needs. In the NinjaBet tools that role is played by ProphetX, a prediction market and a CFTC-designated contract market since June 2026, available in every state we serve except Nevada. The Bet Finder compares its prices with your state's sportsbooks and computes both stakes.
What is a prediction market?
A prediction market lists contracts on the outcome of an event, for example "Will the Chiefs win on Sunday?". Each contract pays $1 if the outcome happens and $0 if it does not. The price, quoted in cents, is set by the people buying and selling, and it moves until the game starts. A contract priced at 40 cents costs $0.40 and pays $1.00, so the market puts the chance of that outcome at about 40%.
You take a side by buying a contract on it: "Yes" if you think the outcome happens, or the contract on the opposite outcome if you think it does not. You do not need anybody's permission to take either side, and you can sell a contract before the game if someone will buy it.
How does a price in cents convert to American odds?
A price of p cents gives decimal odds of 100 ÷ p. From decimal odds, American odds are (decimal - 1) × 100 for prices under 50 cents, and -100 ÷ (decimal - 1) for prices over 50 cents. At 40 cents: 100 ÷ 40 = 2.50 in decimal, and (2.50 - 1) × 100 = +150. The free odds converter does this for you, both ways.
| Contract price | Implied probability | Decimal odds | American odds |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 cents | 10% | 10.00 | +900 |
| 25 cents | 25% | 4.00 | +300 |
| 40 cents | 40% | 2.50 | +150 |
| 50 cents | 50% | 2.00 | +100 (even) |
| 60 cents | 60% | 1.67 | -150 |
| 75 cents | 75% | 1.33 | -300 |
| 80 cents | 80% | 1.25 | -400 |
These conversions ignore fees. A fee makes the effective odds slightly shorter than the price suggests, so check the platform's fee schedule before you compare.
How does ProphetX work in the NinjaBet tools?
US sportsbooks do not offer lay bets, so every promo is hedged back-back: you bet one outcome at the sportsbook and the opposite outcome somewhere else. ProphetX is one of the places for that second bet, next to the other sportsbooks in your state.
- Open the Bet Finder and pick the mode of your promo: Cash, Bonus Bet, 2nd Chance, Playthrough or Boost.
- Choose the sportsbook that gave you the promo as the first leg and ProphetX (or another sportsbook) as the second.
- The Bet Finder ranks the pairs by rating. In Bonus Bet mode the rating is the conversion rate: 75 means you keep about $75 of a $100 bonus bet.
- Place the sportsbook bet, then the ProphetX side with the stake shown.
The free account includes the Bet Finder with DraftKings and ProphetX; Premium unlocks every sportsbook in your state. The step-by-step guide How to use ProphetX covers placing orders, fees and partial fills.
A worked example: converting a $100 bonus bet
For example, in October 2026 you hold a $100 bonus bet at a sportsbook. You place it on Team A at +300 (4.00 in decimal). On a prediction market the contract on Team B, the other side, costs 76 cents, which is 1.3158 in decimal, or about -317.
| Step | Computation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Bonus bet profit if Team A wins | $100 × (4.00 - 1) | $300.00 |
| Hedge stake on Team B | $100 × (4.00 - 1) ÷ 1.3158 | $228.00 |
| Contracts bought | $228.00 ÷ $0.76 | 300 |
| Result if Team A wins | $300.00 - $228.00 | +$72.00 |
| Result if Team B wins | 300 × $1.00 - $228.00 (the bonus bet costs nothing) | +$72.00 |
Whoever wins, you keep $72, a 72% conversion rate, before any fee on the prediction market side. A bonus bet returns only the winnings, not the stake, which is why the hedge uses 4.00 - 1. The free bonus bet converter runs the same calculation, and in the Bet Finder the stake is computed for you.
What should you watch for on a prediction market?
- Fees. Prediction markets can charge a trading fee or a commission on winnings, and the amount can depend on the platform and on the price. Every fee reduces the locked-in result, so include it before you compare a price with a sportsbook's.
- Partial fills. A price is only as good as the contracts offered at it. If not enough are available, your order fills in part, and you hedge the rest at the next price or adjust.
- Order of the two bets. Place the sportsbook bet first, then the prediction market side, and check both before kick-off.
- Market rules. Read how each contract settles (overtime, postponements) and make sure it matches the sportsbook's rules for the bet you are hedging.
How is a prediction market different from a sportsbook?
| Feature | Sportsbook | Prediction market |
|---|---|---|
| Who sets the price | The sportsbook, with its hold built into the odds | Users buying and selling contracts; the platform usually earns from fees |
| How you take a side | Place a bet at the odds offered | Buy a contract on the outcome you want |
| Price format | American odds (+150, -110) | Cents per contract (40 cents pays $1) |
| Typical limits | Maximum stakes, which can be cut per account | How many contracts are offered at each price |
| Promos | Welcome offers, bonus bets, profit boosts | Generally fewer |
| Who regulates it | The state gaming regulator | The CFTC, for a designated contract market |
For matched betting, the key difference is the promos row: sportsbooks give you the promos, and a prediction market gives you a place to take the other side.
What about Kalshi and Novig?
Kalshi and Novig are other prediction markets. They are not in the NinjaBet tools today, so the Bet Finder does not show their prices. Their availability depends on the state, and it is being challenged in court in some states. If you use one on your own, you can still work out the stakes with the hedge calculator after converting its price with the odds converter.
Frequently asked questions
Is ProphetX a sportsbook?
No. ProphetX is a prediction market, designated as a contract market by the CFTC in June 2026. In the NinjaBet tools it is used as the second leg of a hedge.
In which states can I use ProphetX with NinjaBet?
In every state NinjaBet serves except Nevada, which is not served. Your state's list is on Sportsbooks.
Do I need to convert cents to American odds myself?
Not in the Bet Finder, which computes the stakes for you. For a price you see elsewhere, use the odds converter.
Can a prediction market limit my account?
Your practical limit is usually how many contracts are offered at the price you want. Each platform has its own rules, so read them.
Is the $72 in the example locked in?
The hedge locks in the result of that bet whoever wins, as long as both sides are placed at the prices shown. Fees, partial fills and price moves can change it, so treat any figure as an estimate rather than a promise.
Can I use Kalshi or Novig in the Bet Finder?
No, they are not in the NinjaBet tools today.
