Playthrough calculator: what a sportsbook bonus is worth

A playthrough (rollover) requirement says how many times a bonus, sometimes with the deposit, must be wagered before it can be withdrawn. Enter the bonus, the deposit and the multiplier: the calculator shows the total to wager, the number of bets, the expected cost of that wagering at the market's payout and the expected value left in the bonus.

How to use the calculator

  1. 1

    Enter the bonus terms

Bonus amount, deposit and playthrough multiplier from the offer's terms.

  2. 2

    Say what counts

Tick the deposit if the multiplier applies to bonus plus deposit, and set the payout of the markets you will bet.

  3. 3

    Read the real value

Total to wager, bets needed, expected cost and the bonus value left after the wagering.

Worked example

A $200 deposit bonus with a 5x playthrough on bonus only: $1,000 to wager. Betting at -110 (payout 95.45%) costs on average 4.55% of that, $45.45, so the bonus is worth about $154.55. With a 5x playthrough on bonus plus deposit the wagering doubles to $2,000 and the value drops to about $109.

Frequently asked questions

What is a playthrough requirement?

The condition that turns a sportsbook bonus into withdrawable cash: you must wager a multiple of the bonus (sometimes of bonus plus deposit) at the minimum odds the terms set.

How do I calculate a rollover?

Multiply the bonus (or bonus plus deposit) by the playthrough. A $100 bonus at 10x means $1,000 of bets before you can withdraw it.

Why does a bonus lose value when I wager it?

Every bet carries the sportsbook's vig: at a 95% payout you lose 5% of what you wager on average. The bigger the playthrough, the more of the bonus the vig eats.

How can I reduce the cost of a playthrough?

Bet on the markets with the highest payout, at the lowest odds the terms allow. With matched betting, covering each bet at another book or exchange turns the cost into a small, fixed amount.

Is a bonus with a high playthrough worth it?

Only if the expected value stays positive: the calculator shows it. A small bonus with a 20x playthrough on bonus plus deposit is often worth less than nothing.
