No-vig calculator: fair odds and the sportsbook's vig

Enter the odds of every outcome of a market and the calculator shows how much the sportsbook keeps (the vig, or margin), its payout percentage and the fair odds of each outcome once the vig is removed. Fair odds are the benchmark to judge a price: a line longer than the fair odds has positive expected value.

How to use the calculator

  1. 1

    Choose 2-way or 3-way

Moneylines, spreads and totals are 2-way markets; soccer's win-draw-win is 3-way.

  2. 2

    Enter every outcome's odds

Take the prices from the same sportsbook, at the same moment, for all outcomes of the market.

  3. 3

    Read vig and fair odds

The calculator shows the vig in percent, the payout and the no-vig odds of each side.

Worked example

A spread priced -110 on both sides: each side implies 52.38%, together 104.76%. The vig is 4.76% of the book and the payout 95.45%. Removing the vig leaves 50% for each side, so the fair odds are +100 (2.00) on both. A line of +105 on either side would beat the fair price.

Frequently asked questions

What is the vig in sports betting?

The vig (vigorish, juice or margin) is the commission built into the odds. It is why both sides of a -110/-110 line add up to more than 100%: the extra 4.76% is what the sportsbook expects to keep.

What are no-vig fair odds?

The odds a market would have with no margin: the implied probabilities rescaled so they add up to exactly 100%. They are the best estimate of the real chance of each outcome from that sportsbook's prices.

How do I use fair odds to find value?

Compare the fair odds of a sharp sportsbook with the price another book offers on the same outcome. If the offered price is longer than the fair one, the bet has positive expected value. The EV calculator measures by how much.

Which method removes the vig here?

The proportional method: each outcome keeps its share of the book. It is the standard and it is accurate for balanced markets; on heavy favorites the longshot usually carries a little more of the vig.

What is a good payout percentage?

On main markets 95-97% is normal and above 97% is sharp pricing. Props and parlays often pay back 90% or less, which is why the vig of a parlay grows with every leg.
