Parlay Events Starting at the Same Time

Learn how to cover a MultiOdds parlay when two legs are played at the same time.

When using the MultiOdds, a parlay is normally covered one leg at a time. You place the parlay at the sportsbook, then cover the first leg. If that leg wins, you move to the next one, and so on.

This workflow works because each event is usually settled before the next one begins.

However, there are situations where two legs of the parlay are played at the same time. This may happen because:

  • A promotion requires a specific group of events.
  • One event is postponed and moved closer to another.
  • Two chosen events simply have the same start time.

In this case, you cannot wait for the first of those two legs to finish before covering the second. The normal MultiOdds sequence no longer works, so you need to cover the two simultaneous legs together with a different method.

Why Simultaneous Events Require a Different Cover

Suppose two consecutive legs of your parlay are played at the same time:

  • A = the first simultaneous selection in your parlay
  • B = the second simultaneous selection in your parlay

Normally, the MultiOdds would let you cover A first, then cover B only if A wins.

When both events start together, that is not possible. You need to prepare in advance for the three relevant outcomes:

  1. A wins and B wins
    The parlay survives and continues.
  2. A loses
The parlay loses immediately, regardless of what happens in B.
  3. A wins and B loses
The parlay loses on the second simultaneous leg.

These three scenarios cover every possible result that matters for the parlay.

The Covering Strategy

To manage the two simultaneous events, you will use the Calculator with a cover setup with 3 outcomes.

The three outcomes represent:

  1. The original parlay path
    A and B both win.
  2. The opposite of A
    A loses.
  3. A wins, but B loses
This is covered with a new parlay made of:
    • the original selection for A
    • the opposite selection for B

In simple form, the structure is:

  • A × B
  • A′
  • A × B′

Where:

  • A × B = both original parlay selections win
  • A′ = the opposite of A
  • A × B′ = A wins, but B loses

This replaces the normal step-by-step cover for those two legs.

Before You Start

Before using this method, make sure that:

  • The two parlay events really are starting at the same time or too close together to cover sequentially.
  • You have not already left a normal cover active for the first of those simultaneous legs.
  • You know which selection is the first simultaneous leg and which is the second.
  • You can find the required opposite selections at sportsbooks or on ProphetX where you can place the needed bets.

Important

If you have already placed the normal cover for the first simultaneous leg on ProphetX, deal with it before using this method. If that cover is still a pending offer, cancel it. If it has already Filled, it cannot be cashed out, so factor it into your numbers instead of stacking a second cover on top. Otherwise, you risk creating an incorrect double cover.

Case 1: The Two Simultaneous Events Are the First Two Legs of the Parlay This is the simpler case.

Step 1: Open the Calculator

Open the Calculator and use a cover setup with 3 outcomes.

Use the same relevant mode and stake assumptions as the parlay operation you are performing.

Step 2: Enter the Main Parlay Scenario

For Outcome 1, enter the combined odds of the two original parlay selections that are played at the same time — this is the parlay price your sportsbook shows for those two legs together.

For example:

  • A: Lakers moneyline -200
  • B: Chiefs moneyline -125

The combined parlay price for these two legs is +170.

If you want to work it out by hand, convert each price to decimal, multiply, then convert back — this is just an intermediate step, not the odds you enter:

-200 → 1.50, -125 → 1.80, and 1.50 × 1.80 = 2.70, which is +170 in American odds.

You would enter +170 as the first odds value.

Step 3: Enter the Opposite of the First Simultaneous Selection

For Outcome 2, enter the odds of the selection that covers A losing.

Examples:

  • If A is a team's moneyline, the opposite is the other team's moneyline (these US markets are 2-way, so there is no draw).
  • If A is Over on a totals market (for example, Over 220.5 points), the opposite is Under 220.5 points.
  • If A is a player prop over (for example, over 25.5 points), the opposite is the matching under 25.5 points.

This bet is placed as a single bet.

Step 4: Enter the Cover for “A Wins, B Loses”

For Outcome 3, you need a new parlay made of:

  • The same original selection as A
  • The opposite selection of B

Because these two selections must be placed together as a parlay, you need to find them on the same sportsbook.

Enter the combined parlay price the sportsbook shows for A × B′ as the third odds value in the Calculator. If you are computing it by hand, multiply the decimal versions of the two prices (odds of A at that sportsbook × odds of B′) and convert the result back to American odds before entering it.

Step 5: Place the Two Cover Bets

The Calculator will now tell you how much to stake on:

  1. The single bet covering A′
  2. The parlay bet covering A × B′

Place both bets as shown.

At this point, the simultaneous block is covered.

Case 2: The Two Simultaneous Events Come After One or More Earlier Legs

The logic is the same, but the first odds value must include the earlier parlay legs that have already won.

This is necessary because the original parlay has already increased in value before reaching the simultaneous events.

Step 1: Open the Calculator

Again, use the Calculator with a cover setup with 3 outcomes.

Step 2: Enter the Full Current Parlay Value

For Outcome 1, enter the combined price of the earlier winning legs plus the two simultaneous selections (earlier winning legs × A × B).

For example:

  • Earlier winning leg: -250
  • A: -165
  • B: -135

The combined price for these three is +292.

If you work it out by hand, convert to decimal and multiply as an intermediate step:

-250 → 1.40, -165 → about 1.60, -135 → about 1.75, and 1.40 × 1.60 × 1.75 = 3.92, which is about +292 in American odds.

You would enter +292 as the first odds value.

Important

The earlier odds are not a new bet. They are included only so the Calculator correctly reflects the current value of the live parlay.

Step 3: Enter the Other Two Scenarios

The other two outcomes are calculated in the same way as before:

  • Outcome 2: the opposite of A, placed as a single bet
  • Outcome 3: a parlay made of:
    • the original selection for A
    • the opposite selection for B

The Calculator will then show the two cover stakes to place.

This is the same strategy used when the simultaneous legs are at the beginning of the parlay; only the first odds value changes.

What Happens After the Two Events Settle?

There are two possible paths.

If the Original Parlay Loses During the Simultaneous Block

If:

  • A loses, or
  • A wins but B loses

then the original parlay is finished.

The Calculator shows the result of the simultaneous-event cover for that scenario.

If the simultaneous legs were not at the beginning of the parlay, remember that earlier legs may already have required cover bets that were lost when those earlier parlay legs won. Those earlier cover costs must be considered when evaluating the final overall result of the full operation.

If Both Simultaneous Legs Win

If both A and B win, the parlay survives and continues.

From that point, return to MultiOdds and continue covering the next leg as usual.

However, the final result may be slightly different from the original MultiOdds estimate, because you replaced the normal step-by-step covers for A and B with this special simultaneous-events method.

A simple way to think about the adjustment is:

Adjustment = standard cover cost expected by MultiOdds − total stake actually used in the simultaneous-events workaround

Then:

Adjusted final result = MultiOdds projected result + adjustment

If the workaround cost more than the normal sequential cover would have cost, the final result becomes slightly worse. If it cost less, the final result becomes slightly better.

Important Checks and Common Mistakes to Avoid

Do not try to cover the two events one by one

If both events begin at the same time, you cannot safely wait for the first result before covering the second. Use the 3-scenario method instead.

Do not leave an old cover active

If you already placed a standard cover for the first simultaneous leg on ProphetX, cancel it while it is still a pending offer before using this alternative setup. If it has already Filled, it cannot be cashed out, so account for it instead of stacking a second cover on top.

Include earlier winning legs when required

If the simultaneous events are not the first legs of the parlay, the first odds value must also include the odds of the earlier parlay legs that already won.

Use the same sportsbook for the third outcome

The A × B′ cover is a parlay, so both selections must be available on the same sportsbook.

Check that the opposite selections are correct

The opposite market must truly cover the original selection losing. A wrong opposite selection will make the cover inaccurate.

Re-check the final projected result

If both simultaneous events win and the parlay continues, remember that your final result may differ slightly from the original MultiOdds projection.

Final Summary

When two legs of a MultiOdds parlay are played at the same time, the normal sequential cover cannot be used.

Instead, cover the three relevant scenarios:

  1. A and B both win — the parlay continues.
  2. A loses — the parlay ends.
  3. A wins and B loses — the parlay ends.

To do this:

  1. Open the Calculator with a cover setup with 3 outcomes.
  2. Enter the combined odds for the original parlay path.
  3. Enter the odds for the opposite of the first simultaneous selection.
  4. Enter the combined odds for the parlay made of:
    • the original first simultaneous selection
    • the opposite of the second simultaneous selection
  5. Place the two cover bets shown by the Calculator.
  6. If both original selections win, return to MultiOdds and continue with the next leg.

Used correctly, this method lets you keep the parlay under control even when two events happen at the same time.
